Transdiagnostic Evidence Base of Exposure Therapy

The primary goal of this working group is to conduct high-quality meta-analytic reviews examining the efficacy of exposure-based interventions on transdiagnostic psychological processes and clinical outcomes. Specific aims are to (a) synthesize evidence across diagnostic categories, (b) identify moderators of treatment effects, including intervention characteristics and population factors, and (c) clarify the extent to which exposure therapy produces change in core transdiagnostic mechanisms. An additional goal is to promote methodological rigor, transparency, and collaboration in exposure therapy research, in line with the consortium’s mission to advance cumulative and clinically meaningful evidence.
Advantages
There are several advantages to this line of inquiry:
01.
Mechanism-focused approach
Emphasizes core psychological processes underlying exposure therapy rather than just disorder-specific symptom change, supporting transdiagnostic theory development.
02.
Attention to moderators
Explicit examination of moderators enhances clinical relevance and clarifies sources of variability in treatment response.
03.
Cross-study coordination
Promotes shared definitions, measures, and analytic standards to improve comparability and cumulative impact across meta-analyses.
04.
Alignment with consortium priorities
Closely aligned with contemporary transdiagnostic approaches endorsed by the consortium.
